Alelo's Dr. Lewis Johnson to co-chair the new Industry and Innovation Track of the 2013 Artificial Intelligence in Education Conference
This new track focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of sustainable learning solutions incorporating artificial intelligence techniques. It reflects a new and exciting phase for the field of artificial intelligence in education, where AI is becoming an essential component of educational innovations. Educational ventures, companies, public-private partnerships, and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to participate.
AIED 2013, to be hosted at the University of Memphis by Art Graesser and his team, promises to be a fantastic event! The first AIED conference was a workshop held in 1983 - 30 years ago - in Exeter, UK.
AIED is an interdisciplinary community at the frontiers of the fields of computer science, education and psychology. It promotes rigorous research and development of interactive and adaptive learning environments for learners of all ages, across all domains. The society brings together a community of members in the field through the organization of Conferences, a Journal, and other activities of interest.

Ambassador Paul Bremer Joins Alelo
Alelo Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Ambassador Paul Bremer III to its Board of Directors on February 1st. Not only does Ambassador Bremer come to Alelo with extensive experience in government, but he has also held distinguished roles in the private sector and is currently engaged with a number of non-profit companies as well. Alelo UK teams with Akhter Computers plc to deliver British MST Versions of Alelo Pashto and Dari mLearning Apps
Alelo UK Ltd closed its first sale to the British Army in February. Alelo UK will deliver 500 licenses for its Mission-Specific Training version of Operational Pashto and Operational Dari mLearning apps for use on iPod Touch devices. These apps are customized for the British Army and will be used by troops deploying on Operation HERRICK 16 and 17 this year. "This is an important step in our continuing efforts to provide world-class social simulation products to our coalition partners and further signifies the MOD's commitment to providing the best possible training to their warfighters," Dr. Lewis Johnson, Alelo's CEO and Chief Scientist said. Installation and delivery will be in collaboration with our partners Akhter Computers plc.

UK Military Assistance Group (MAG) Training Evaluation Update
Alelo and the British Army Directorate of Educational and Training Services (DETS(A)) conducted an evaluation of a blended learning approach using our Op Dari and Op Pashto iOS apps with the first MOD Military Assistance Group. Methodology used to conduct the study was based on Kirkpatrick's four levels of evaluation. Trainees used apps in addition to receiving classroom training prior to deploying to Afghanistan. Dr. Lewis Johnson and Colonel Andrew King of DETS(A) will be presenting on the results of these findings in the paper they co-authored at ITEC 2012. VCAT Afghanistan +L Goes Mobile
VCAT Afghanistan +L is being adapted to work on mobile devices as part of an effort to improve course availability to US forces across the globe. The mobile version, which is designed to work on most Apple and Android devices, will offer automated speech recognition while teaching all of the core lesson content currently available only with the full online version. Scheduled for release mid-summer this year, the mobile version will be available through the Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) mobile app portal. The Web-based version of VCAT Afghanistan +L will continue to be available on JKO as well.

INNOVATION IN EDUCATION
Videnscenter for Integration Unveils DanskSim to Assist Immigrants with Entry into Danish Society
This February, Denmark's Videnscenter for Integration (VIFIN) released DanskSimulatoren (Danish Simulator), a unique Danish language and culture course powered by Alelo technology. DanskSimulatoren weaves Danish historical narrative and cultural story elements into a fun comprehensive language and culture course designed to assist recent immigrants to Denmark assimilate into society and enter the workforce. The VIFIN team applied Alelo's cutting edge course development model, speech recognition, and authoring tools platform to create a social simulation learning product to meet their specific instructional needs.
DanskSimulatoren is currently in trials in several schools. VIFIN and Alelo are also exploring ways to use Alelo's technology and next generation authoring tools to commercialize Danish Simulatoren and create new courses for other Nordic languages and cultures.
