Tactical Dari Language & Culture
Training System™ under development
September 2007
The
United States Army has contracted us to develop the Tactical
Dari Language & Culture Training System.
Dari is spoken in the country's northern and western regions,
and the capital Kabul. About half of the population of Afghanistan
speaks Dari natively, though many are bilingual. It serves
as the means of communication between Afghanistan's speakers
of different languages.
The course will prepare the American military to work with
Afghan leaders and army personnel for training and reconstruction
purposes. Cultural education will include sensitive issues
such as communicating with members of the opposite sex,
and giving constructive criticism without offending.
The United States Army Combined Arms Center in Ft. Leavenworth
(Kan.) and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language
Center (DLIFLC) support the project in cooperation with
the 1st Infantry Division in Ft. Riley (Kan.), which is
already using the Tactical Iraqi course extensively to train
military advisors headed for Iraq. The United States Marine
Corps Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS) will
manage the program.
